A Soothing Tonic of Hot Water, Spices, Whiskey, and Honey.
Boil 1 cup of water. Add 1 Tablespoon of spice blend. Steep spices for 5 mins, then strain into a warm glass tumbler. Add 1 teaspoon of honey. Stir in 2 ounces of whiskey, rum or brandy. Topp off the glass with boiling water, serving steaming hot with a cinnamon stick.
A favorite winter warmer, the hot toddy is sipped as a soothing tonic before bedtime, or as relief to cold, wet weather. It was named for the toddy drink in India, created from a drink of the toddy palm, then carried to Scotland by the East India Company as a hot whiskey drink of water, honey, herbs, and spices.
